Possible Massive cuts to Medical Research

YOUR HELP IS NEEDED!!

On January 2, 2013 the Epilepsy community might face devastating cuts of 8.2% to research programs seeking a cure.

These programs are funded partially by the National Institutes of Health which falls under the category of Non-defense discretionary programs or NDD programs.

Also at risk are programs that fund veteran and senior care.

YOUR PART:

Email, Facebook or Tweet congress members to tell them that NDD programs, including medical research and public health are vital, and the government needs a balanced approach.

Would you like an opportunity to give back to Epilepsy Foundation, or to allow us to help more people?

We will need a few volunteers very soon, and some teams beginning after the first of the year.

Opportunities range from 3 hours per week to 10 hours per week, and from phone calls to leading a team.

If you are willing to take a short personality quiz, to read and sign our handbook, and to come in for orientation and training, please e-mail rfielding@epilepsy-setn.org.

New Medication Device for Breakthrough Seizures

Steven Prestrelski, co-founder of Xeris Pharmaceuticals, Inc. has received a grant to develop an auto-injection device similar to an epipen.

This device will be a simple, pain-free way to inject Diazepam into multiple sites including shoulder, abdomen, and thigh. The subcutaneous injection should take two seconds or less to administer, making it emergency ready.

Wrist Sensors Gauge Seizures

New portable wrist sensors could eventually replace the need for hospitalized EEgs, and help patients know when they need to seek medical attention.
