Leslie Glover is an local wife and mother whose daughter, Kaylee Marie, was diagnosed with epilepsy at 5 months of age. Leslie, like many other parents, sought out all the wisdom she could find regarding epilepsy and seizures. She looked for ways to explain epilepsy to her daughter but she found that she had no heroic fictional characters to which she could read about to Kaylee. So, she decided to take the matters into her own hands and write a book about a girl who solves mysteries who also happens to have epilepsy.
In her first book Treasure of The Many Mysteries of Kaylee Marie series, the 14 year old high school freshman moves into a new neighborhood - and next door to a very old, creepy abandoned house. She soon learns there is mystery surrounding this house and the reporter in her just has to find out the truth. While solving the neighborhood mystery, Kaylee also has to deal with her occasional seizures and the way she gets made fun of at school. The fictional Kaylee, based on her own daughter Kaylee, also had her first seizure when she was five months old. Chapter three of the book chronicles this seizure—identical to real life Kaylee Marie. Through out the book, Kaylee learns that epilepsy is not what defines her, but that her seizures are an obstacle in her life that will make her stronger because of them.
Leslie and her husband Frank, live in Athens, Tennessee. The real life Kaylee Marie is their only daughter. Leslie is an environmental biologist at the Knoxville Utility Board. She has been writing for many years, but this is her first published book. Kaylee Marie is three years old, soon to be four, and will attend Ingleside Elementary School next year in Athens, Tenn. where the family resides.
“It’s always been a dream of mine to publish a book, but I’ve never had the perfect idea,” said Leslie. “When Kaylee began having seizures, I wanted to do something for her... I don’t like asking ‘why her?’ but maybe this is why this has happened—so we can help someone else.”
