Under beautiful blue skies, a record number of volunteers and record spectator crowds, the Chattanooga Classic had a Classic finish with a four-hole playoff eventually crowning Scott Gardiner as its 2010 Champion. But the real winner for the second year was the Epilepsy Foundation of Southeast Tennessee (EFSETN) with the Classic’s donation of $25,000. With this donation, the Chattanooga Classic will make a difference in the lives of people with epilepsy by providing funding that helps us to carry out our many services to those affected by epilepsy in our area.
The Chattanooga Classic represents the PGA TOUR’s presence in Chattanooga. The future of the Chattanooga Classic is uncertain as organizers search to find a title sponsor. With the loss of the NCAA Football Championship Game and the loss of the TSSAA spring games, the Classic is presently the last major sporting event that markets Chattanooga. The loss of the Classic would mean a loss of major funding to EFSETN and we will have to seek other sources to make up this shortfall. If anyone has any ideas that will help both EFSETN and the Chattanooga Classic, please call the our office at (423) 634-1771.
While the future of the Chattanooga Classic is unknown, we extend the highest level of appreciation to the Classic for the past two years of benefit. During these tough economic times, the total of $50,000 received by EFSETN from the Chattanooga Classic makes the Classic a true Champion for serving people with epilepsy.
