The most rapidly growing population group with epilepsy is older adults!
By 75 years of age, 3% of the population can be expected to have been diagnosed with epilepsy and 10% will have experienced some type of seizure!
That is why the Epilepsy Foundation of Southeast Tennessee is offering caregivers a free educational training titled "Seniors and Seizures."
This hour training will teach participants the following:
What is epilepsy?
Myths/truths about epilepsy
Common causes of epilepsy
Different seizure types
Common types of seizures in older adults
Basic first aid for each seizure
When a seizure is an emergency
This training is developed with grant support from the Center for Disease Control* and is absolutely free. We conduct this training in area nursing homes, assistant livings and we will be periodically offering it to home caregivers of seniors at various local meeting places. Check back for particular dates and times.
If you would like to schedule a training with our educator, please give us a call at (423) 634-1772.
